This is a very clean - and mostly stock - 1955 Ford Sedan Delivery. As with most acquisitions of a stock car - we have its history in receipts only. I know you all want to know what we paid for it, as it seem to be the most frequently asked question in the day since we bought it. We paid $6,800. It has 79,000 miles on the odo - how many round trips?... It was represented as the original miles - but who knows?
OWNERS OF RECORD: The Ford was first sold to the "Town of Mina", Hawthorne, Nevada. The Nevada license number was EX-MN-52 the motor number A5LS108149 (Serial # the same). It is described on the registration as a: Ford 6; Courier ambulance and we have included a scan of that documentation.
Tim Jennings was the next owner and bought it on June 17, 1975. Tim lived in both Carson and Reno according to the many receipts we have from his ownership period. On September 26, 1983 it
appears Tim sold the Ford to Marilyn Best of Reno, Nevada. They are very few receipts from Marilyn, so we are uncertain of the next sale date. Sometime after that, we find Alex Robles and Francis Benton as the owners on a receipt dated May 31, 1984 showing a "hot tank" of the block in Riverside, California. The next owner we see is Wendy Lee Jeffries of Hemet California, who renewed the registration of the car from 11/06/98-11/30-99. We suspect this is the date she bought the car from the Robles/Benton party, as she indicated to us she had it a short period of time. We show Wendy had the Clutch repaired ($150); R&R Steering Column ($60);
Rebuild the Generator Bracket ($30); R&R the Steering Box ($60); and rebuild the Steering Box ($623). This is actually funny, as the clutch malfunctioned three blocks from the point-of-sale and the car had to be towed back to Orange County (thank goodness for AAA's 100 mile towing policy on an upgraded membership)! Keep in mind - this is THE DAY AFTER the repair job on the clutch for $150! We won't tell you the repair shop - but he is in Temecula, California!
YOUR VOTE COUNTS! Now we need to know MORE from our membership to decide what to do with it. Do we bring it back to complete STOCK restoration - or do we make it a SHOWSTOPPER? Your vote counts! Once we decide as a website (that means you too) what to do with it we will start it on its journey, using the suggestions, parts sources, vendors you help us select to bring it to like-new condition. You can then see "your completed work" at each of the events we attend.
For those of you who are Chevy fans, we have not excluded the possibility of having one of each. Both 55 sedan deliveries - both restored to the "twins" of 24hourCLASSICCARS.com. OK - cast your vote by using the CONTACT US BUTTON on the left and indicating STOCK or MODIFIED. We will tabulate the votes and begin the Ford's next journey…
